Sparks, To Light The World

All of us dream of dazzling deeds, doing big and beautiful things that leads to making a difference in the world.  However, most of us do not realize that we really can make a difference.  And it starts in the most simple place–the home.

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire. ” – St. Catherine of Sienna.

How am I setting the world on fire as a wife and mother?  I ask this question quite often.  I’ve come to the realization that most of the profound things God did were done when there were few around.  Our witness to world may not be shouted from the roof tops, but instead like little whispers that eventually spread like a wild fire.

We can change the world in the ordinary of our every day, but it requires patience and perseverance.

Mothers are spark makers if you will.   To our children, we are the first encounter of the love of God.    Sacrificial love is learned from us. What an important vocation!  We are fanning the flames, feeding the sparks more Oxygen (the source of keeping the fire alive) so the flames don’t get weak.  Many things now days can dim and even extinguish our little lights.  We have to persevere and push forward, by protecting our sparks from the strong storms and wild winds of this world.

“Train up a child the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” -Proverbs 22:6

The answer?  Let’s walk by faith; let’s persevere with hope; let’s remain near the source, the True Light, Jesus and remember that our vocation as mothers is indeed beautiful.  If God chose a woman to be the gateway He would enter this world, how can we not think highly of motherhood?

We can only love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).  Let’s enkindle the fire of love in our children. With time the sparks will grow and spread, eventually setting the world ablaze.  And that’s how we will change the world.
